Enamelling is the ancient art of fusing glass to metal.
Champleve enamelling is a technique of creating depressions in metal into which enamel powder is laid. The piece is then fired in a kiln at 760-815 degrees celsius. Several layers of enamel are fired until the desired image is created. The surface is then filed, sanded and polished to create the desired effect. The resulting piece does not usually need to be placed in a setting.
To clean enamel, use a damp, soft cloth. Do not immerse jewellery in liquid. Dry naturally. Silver components can be cleaned with a silver polishing cloth (included with purchase).
Enamel jewellery will last for many years if protected from contact with sharp objects, chemicals and hard impacts.
